I Like Mike

Where has the time gone

The Mike Lowell situation in Boston has become increasingly frustrating. The other day, Lowell's essential replacement, Adrian Beltre, was (mildly) injured in a collision with left fielder Jeremy Hermida. This is the SECOND time this season Beltre has collided with a left fielder, the other being Jacoby Ellsbury, who hasn't been right ever since. Anyway...instead of letting Lowell start the next game, as Beltre was scratched from the line up, Youkilis was moved to third, Martinez moved to first, and Varitek caught.

This is a disgrace by the management to the man who was the World Series MVP and one of the classiest guys I have ever seen in a Red Sox uniform. They keep him on the bench for weeks at a time while he is healthy and refuse to trade him or let him leave. The few opportunities he has to play, they do not allow it to happen. Lowell has been a good sport about it, but I know he can't possibly be happy.

I guess I shouldn't really be surprised. I mean this is Major League Baseball, after all. It's a business and no one really cares about their players. If they're injured or old, they're dead. It's all about what have you done for me lately. If you do well, then management wants you around...unless you don't play well enough to earn your salary. But I suppose I shouldn't be talking about that either. Because we all know "athletes make a lot more money than us everyday folk". But to see someone just be thrown away like the Red Sox organization has with Lowell makes me sick.

Lowell has talked about retiring after the season and personally I don't blame him. After all, nobody needs him any more. He's just dead weight. "Oh, you helped us win a world series? Well that was three years ago. Do it again, you piece of shit."

It fucking disgusts me.
